What is Margareting?
The word ‘Margareting’ started out as a jokey way to describe our marketing work in health and care services.
Because it wasn’t really marketing as people usually think of it. It was more than promotion, advertising, comms…
We specialise in really understanding how people see the problem they’re facing and working across the whole service user journey to make sure they can find and access the support they need.
One day a friend was telling us about her mum, Margaret, who chats to everyone on the bus and if anyone’s having a tough time she’ll put them in touch with someone who can help. We joked that if marketing is a poster on the bus stop, our work is more like Margaret on the bus.
So we started calling it Margareting. Because we reckon there’s a lot of us out there doing this, and maybe if we have a word for it we can find each other and work together?
What’s the Margareting Academy?
A free resource of tools and tips on how to grow and improve your community group, activity or service.
It’s a bit of marketing, a bit of service design, a bit of systems thinking, service user engagement, graphic design, copywriting, and maybe just a bit of behaviour change too. None of what you’ll learn here is invented by me, I just wanted to bring it together in one easy place.
Because over 15 years of working in health and care, every time I looked for resources on how to promote and improve our services (even things as simple as how to create a good leaflet), I really struggled to find something that’s pitched at beginner level and relevant and affordable for us in community services.
So I thought as I couldn’t find a place where all these resources were brought together, I might as well make one myself!
